Washington Capitals Top Prospects

A look at the Washington Capitals top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the Capitals prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Capitals top prospects.

Madison Bowey: Defence - 6'1" / 195
Drafted: 53rd overall to the Washington Capitals in 2013

Washington's top prospect made the jump from junior to pro this year and has been developing in the AHL where he has 14 points in 37 games a rookie defenceman.

His season has been reassuring and his development has him on track to be a top pairing defenceman for the Caps in the near future.

Connor Carrick: Defence - 5'11" / 185
Drafted: 137th overall to the Washington Capitals in 2012

Carrick turned pro during the 13-14 season where he split time between the NHL and the AHL, finishing the season in the minors.

The following year, he spent the entire campaign developing with Hershey and had a solid 42 points and 132 penalty minutes in 73 games for the Bears.

In his third pro season, he has spent the majority of the year in Hershey again where he has nine goals and 18 points in 35 games and has had a brief NHL call up seeing three games with the Capitals.

Carrick is developing well and is potentially a call up away from making the jump to the NHL full time.

Zach Sanford: Left Wing - 6'3" / 185
Drafted: 61st overall to the Washington Capitals in 2013

In his sophomore season with Boston College, Sanford has already eclipsed his rookie point totals, and in 14 fewer games.

He currently has six goals and 25 points in 24 games on a stacked B.C. roster.

There is no rush for the 21-year old winger who still has two more season of college eligibility.

Ilya Samsonov: Goalie - 6'3" / 200
Drafted: 22nd overall to the Washington Capitals in 2015

Samsonov has begun playing out his KHL contract with Magnitogorsk in the KHL and has been impressive as an 18 year old posting 2.13 GAA in 15 games.

Samsonov was also named to the Russian WJC roster and started in two games posting a stellar 1.00 GAA and a .956 save percentage.

While Samsonov is a few years away, with Braden Holtby the Vezina Trophy front runner, there is no sense of urgency in his development. Samsonov is in the first of a three year KHL contract.
