Toronto Maple Leafs Top Prospects

A look at the Toronto Maple Leafs top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the Maple Leafs prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Maple Leafs top prospects.

Dmytro Timasohv: Left/Right Wing - 5'10" / 187
Draftred: 125th overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015

Despite a breakout 90 point season as a rookie in the QMJHL with Quebec, Timashov flew under the radar of draft rankings, but Leafs Director of Player Personnel Mark Hunter knew what he had when he drafted Timashov with the 125th pick.

Timashov has continued to score at a phenomenal pace in his second season in the Q but his breakout performance was with Team Sweden at the WJC where he scored seven points in seven games.

Toronto has acquired several highly skilled but small wingers, and Timashov could be the most dangerous of the bunch.

Nikita Soshnikov: Right Wing - 5'11" / 183
Acquired: Signed as a free agent in 2015

Soshnikov is another Mark Hunter find, signed as a free agent out of the KHL, this is his rookie AHL season and has not failed to impress.

While playing mainly on a checking line, often with Rich Clune and Fredrik Gauthier in a bottom six role, he has produced impressive offence with 15 goals and 22 points in 37 games.

He has proven to be one of Toronto's most all-around players and perhaps most NHL ready. The 22 year old could get a NHL look at some point this season and surely will challenge for a full time NHL job come September.

Viktor Loov: Defence - 6'1" / 187
Drafted: 209th overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2012

In his second AHL season with the Marlies, Loov has developed into an outstanding all-around player. He is rock solid in his own end, delivers huge and hard hits, is mobile and has developed an offensive element to his game as well.

He projects to be a solid NHL defender in a bottom six role and should be able to succeed Roman Polak after he is either traded, or has his contract expire.
