Tampa Bay Lightning Top Prospects
A look at the Tampa Bay Lightning top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the Lightning prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Lightning top prospects.
Anthony DeAngelo: Defence - 5'11" / 175
Drafted: 19th overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014
DeAngelo is having a fantastic rookie season in the AHL scoring 24 points in 39 games.
The concern with DeAngelo has been his attitude as he was suspended several times during his OHL career for off-ice issues. Those troubles seem to have followed him into his pro career as on two separate occasions he has been scratched from the lineup for what was declared “A Coaches decision".
There is no question DeAngelo has the skills to be a dynamic offensive defenceman, and the Lightning could use some puck movement from the back end right now. The questions regarding his attitude or maturity remain.
Dominik Masin: Defence - 6'2" / 190
Drafted: 35th overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014
Masin is developing with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL, his plus/minus is constantly improving and is an impressive plus-21.
Masin was also named Captain of the Czech team during the WJC where he scored two points in five games.
The most stand out part of Masins game is his aggressive physical play and the tendency for massive open ice hits.
Brayden Point: Centre - 5'10" / 160
Drafted: 79th overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014
Point continues to dominate offensively in the WHL with Moose Jaw with 49 points in 23 games this season.
Point returned to Captain Team Canada in the WJC where he scored five points in five games.
The Lightning hope to have found another diminutive offensive threat like Tyler Johnson in the “Point Machine".
