St. Louis Blues Top Prospects
A look at the St. Louis Blues top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the Blues prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Blues top prospects.
Robby Fabbri: Center - 5'10" / 180
Drafted: 21st overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2014
Fabbri may be small but his presence on the ice is far from it. Offensively, he can do it all. His puckhandling allows him to be creative on the ice and find open players or take it himself and finish with his quick shot.
Fabbri size has yet to be a deterrent at the NHL level where he's posted 18 points (11 goals, 7 assists) in 45 games.
He has found his way into the top-6 where he plays on the second line with Jori Lehtera and Vladimir Tarasenko. Expect him to finish out the season with St. Louis.
Colton Parayko: Defenseman - 6'6" / 226
Drafted: 86th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2012
Parayko has been a pleasant surprise for the Blues organization this season, earning a spot on the roster and playing a third pairing role. He has tallied 19 points in 48 games and has emerged as a dark horse candidate for the Calder Trophy.
He dominates opponents with his size and can knock forwards off the puck with ease. His shot is accurate from the point and can find streaking forwards with stretch passes.
Parayko will continue to develop within the NHL and will eventually find his way into a top-4 role, possibly as soon as the start of the 2016-17 season.
Jordan Schmaltz: Defenseman - 6'2" / 190
Drafted: 25th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2012
Schmaltz is an offensively gifted defenseman, but the defensive aspect of his game needs work. He is often caught out of position and fails to utilize his large frame to knock opponents off the puck.
He can spend time on the power play, but can't be trusted on the penalty kill.
He has been offensively productive in his first professional season, tallying 22 points (3 goals, 19 assists) in 44 games for the Chicago Wolves (AHL).
Expect Schmaltz to finish out this season in the AHL and perhaps spend the 2016-17 season in the AHL as well, developing the defensive aspect of his game.
