San Jose Sharks Top Prospects

A look at the San Jose Sharks top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the Sharks prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Sharks top prospects.

Timo Meier: Right Wing - 6'1" / 209
Drafted: 9th overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2015

Meier is a speedy right winger that plays with a physical edge. His puckhandling is above average and can be trusted on the penalty kill or in a shut-down role.

His offensive abilities have shown this season as he has posted 36 points in 23 games with the Halifax Mooseheads. He was invited to play for Team Switzerland in the World Junior Championships, where he scored 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 6 games.

Meier projects as a top-6 forward, but it would be best for his development if he started in a third line role by the start of the 2016-17 season or spent a season in the AHL.

Nikolay Goldobin: Left Wing- 5'11" / 180
Drafted: 27th overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2014

Goldobin is a small, speedy winger with an accurate shot. His offensive creativity is above average and can find the open player at all times on the ice. His size may be a factor at the NHL level unless he bulks up.

Goldobin has performed well in his professional season, scoring 19 points in 30 games for the San Jose Barracudas (AHL) and had a short stint with the Sharks tallying 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) in 9 games.

Expect Goldobin to finish the season in the AHL developing and challenging for an NHL roster spot at the start of the 2016-17.

Jeremy Roy: Defenseman- 6'0" / 188
Drafted: 31st overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2015

Roy is a responsible two-way defenseman that can be productive at both ends of the ice. He is not often caught out of position and his on ice vision is elite. He plays with a physical edge and can knock opponents off the puck.

His offensive abilities have shown this season, as he's posted 30 points (6 goals, 24 assists) in 33 games for the Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL).

He projects as a solid 2nd pairing defenseman. Expect Roy to join the Barracudas for the 2016-17 season and challenge for a Sharks by the 2017-18 season.
