Ottawa Senators Top Prospects

A look at the Ottawa Senators top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the Senators prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Senators top prospects.

Thomas Chabot: Defenseman- 6'2" /190
Drafted: 18th overall to the Ottawa Senators in 2015

Chabot heads Ottawa's prospects because of his solid two way game and elite skating ability. He's solid in his own end but can provide solid offensive production. He sees the ice well and his positioning makes him a constant, reliable presence on the ice.

Chabot has provided great offensive production for the Saint John Sea Dogs as he's recorded 25 points (8 goals, 17 assists) in 26 games.

He was invited to play for Team Canada at the World Junior Championships and recorded 3 assists in 5 games.

Chabot projects as a top-4 defenseman but Ottawa does not need to rush him. A season or two in the AHL would suit him well. Chabot could arrive in the NHL by the 2017-18 season.

Matt Puempel: Center- 6'2" / 205
Drafted: 24th overall to the Ottawa Senators in 2011

Puempel has yet to fully crack the NHL, going back and forth from Ottawa to Binghamton (AHL). His playmaking and passing ability is very good but these skills haven't translated to the NHL yet.

His stats this year for Binghamton are solid with him tallying 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists) in 29 games.

Puempel must find his footing when given an opportunity with Ottawa or he may end up a career AHL-er. Puempel projects as a third line center.

Colin White: Center- 6'0" / 183
Drafted: 21st overall to the Ottawa Senators in 2015

White plays a solid two-way game and is a coach's dream. He can kill penalties, contribute on the power play, and do anything asked of him.

White currently plays for Boston College (NCAA) and is doing very well, posting 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists) in 20 games.

He was invited to play for Team USA, recording 7 points (3 goals, 4 assists) in 7 games on their bronze medal team.

Ottawa, as well as White, have tough decisions to make at the end of the 2015-16 season: he can return to BC, join Ottawa, or be sent to the AHL for a season. White projects as a top-9 forward at the NHL level.
