New York Rangers Top Prospects

A look at the New York Rangers top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the Rangers prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Rangers top prospects.

Pavel Buchnevich: Center - 6'1" / 165
Drafted: 75th overall by the New York Rangers in 2013

Buchnevich is far and away the best Rangers prospect and has the makings of a star.

After an unheard of 30 points season in the KHL as a 19-year-old, Buchnevich has picked up where he left off tallying 31 points in 46 games this season.

He's got speed to burn an excellent shot. It won't be long before he's an impact player with the Rangers.

Brady Skjei: Defenseman - 6'3" / 205
Drafted: 28th overall by the New York Rangers in 2012

Skjei is having a solid year in what is his first season of professional hockey.

The smart, smooth skating puck-moving defenseman has 16 points in 36 games with Hartford and has even gotten a taste of NHL duty playing two games with the New York Rangers.

With an NHL frame and high-end skating ability, he has all the tools required to become a very good NHL player for a long-time.

He could become a regular as soon as this season and is a lock to be a staple on the back end next year.

Brandon Halverson: Goaltender - 6'4" / 190
Drafted: 59th overall by the New York Rangers in 2014

Halverson has struggled at times this season playing behind a Soo Greyhounds team that is rebuilding on the fly.

In 23 games Halverson has a 9-11-2 record and an underwhelming .895 save percentage. Still, he is highly regarded by many as a prospect and it shows as he was chosen to represent USA at the World Juniors despite his numbers.

Halverson is very athletic, has size to cover a lot of net, and is a capable puck handler. He has the tools to be good. He just needs to put it all together.

He remains a project and will likely need at least two or three seasons in Hartford before he's ready to compete for an NHL job.
