Calgary Flames Top Prospects

A look at the Calgary Flames top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the Flames prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Flames top prospects.

Rasmus Andersson: Defenseman – 6'0" / 210
Drafted: 53rd overall by the Calgary Flames in 2015

Since the beginning of 2014-15 (when Andersson joined the Barrie Colts) he has been absolutely dominant having tallied 98 points(!) in 104 games from the back end.

He's an exceptional puck mover, knows how to quarterback a power play and he's no slouch in his own zone, either.

Andersson is the No. 1 defenseman for a Colts team fighting for top spot in the East and will play a pivotal role down the stretch and in the playoffs.

Depending when his season ends, he will likely join Stockton of the AHL to close out the season.

Andersson played a lot of minutes for the Flames in the preseason and left a good impression on management and the coaching staff. I don't know if he'll make the Flames out of camp next season, but it wouldn't be a surprise.

Regardless if he makes the Flames or not, he will almost certainly be playing pro next season. I don't think he's far off from NHL duty.

Oliver Kylington: Defenseman – 6'0" / 185
Drafted: 60th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2015

Kylington is an ultra skilled defenseman who is enjoying a pretty good season in the AHL as an 18-year-old.

Kylington has nine points – eight of which are primary points – and 35 shots on goal in 26 games.

He's playing pretty big minutes as the youngest defenseman in the AHL and appears to be handling himself quite well. He's far from a polished product, but there's plenty of reason to be optimistic about Kylington moving forward.

He was thought of as a top-15 talent and it hasn't taken long to show why.

Emile Poirier: Left Wing – 6'1" / 195
Drafted: 22nd overall by the Calgary Flames in 2013

Poirier is off to a bit of a slow start in Stockton this season, but as a whole he's played exceptionally well as a young player in the AHL.

In 84 career AHL games he has 26 goals and 56 points. That's very impressive production given he just recently turned 21 years old and is still adjusting to the pro game.

He is an excellent skater, has a good shot and possesses the tools necessary to become an NHL player.
