Boston Bruins Top Prospects

A look at the Boston Bruins top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Bruins top prospects.

Jakub Zboril: Defenseman - 6'2" / 185
Drafted: 13th overall by the Boston Bruins in 2015

Following an impressive rookie campaign in the QMJHL with the Saint John Sea Dogs (Zboril scored 13 goals and had 33 points in 44 games) Zboril has struggled offensively in 2015-16.

He's recorded just nine points in 23 games and is a distant 3rd in defense scoring on his team. That's rare to say about a player taken in the front half of the 1st round.

Despite his struggles he was still, as expected, chosen to play for Czech Republic at the World Juniors, although the highlight of his tournament was laying a questionable hit that led to a game misconduct.

Though he's had a rough start to the year there is still plenty of reason to be optimistic about his future going forward.

He's probably a couple years away from seriously pushing for an NHL spot, but he may very well be worth the wait.

Malcolm Subban: Goaltender - 6'2" / 200
Drafted: 24th overall by the Boston Bruins in 2012

Subban is another highly touted Bruins prospect that has struggled this year following what was a very promising start to his professional career.

In two seasons prior to this one, Subban posted a very impressive .920 save percentage while seeing action in 68 combined AHL games with Providence.

This season his numbers have dipped quite a bit, as he owns a .907 save percentage in 27 games played.

Though his numbers leave a lot to be desired, his track record suggests he's better than his season totals would indicated.

As a whole he's still a pretty highly regarded prospect, although it appears he still has plenty of work to do before he's ready for meaningful minutes in the NHL.

Jake DeBrusk: Left Wing - 6'0" / 175
Drafted: 14th overall by the Boston Bruins in 2015

Keeping with the theme of Bruins 1st round picks in the midst of (somewhat) disappointing seasons, we have Jake DeBrusk.

DeBrusk scored 42 goals in 72 games last season as a draft eligible player with the Swift Current Broncos. That's a very impressive .58 goals per game.

We're about halfway through the 2015-16 campaign and DeBrusk has just 14 goals to his name in 32 contests. That's .43 goals per game.

With prospects it's all about continued progression over time, so it's not overly encouraging that his goal scoring numbers are heading south.

In saying that his points per game totals remain almost identical, although one would expect his totals to improve this season.

While DeBrusk's season to date isn't anything to write home given how highly DeBrusk was drafted his numbers are still fairly good.

DeBrusk is likely a few years away from establishing himself as an NHL regular but there's reason to be optimistic about his future as a goal scorer.
