Anaheim Ducks Top Prospects
A look at the Anaheim Ducks top prospects heading into the 2015-16 season. The write ups for the prospects are from mid-season, updating the progress of some of the Ducks top prospects.
Shea Theodore: Defenseman - 6'2" / 195
Drafted: 26th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2013
Theodore is another 2013 1st round pick who is making out quite well in his first season of professional hockey.
Theodore scored four times, added 12 assists and 51 shots in his first 27 games while playing a lot of meaningful minutes for the San Diego Gulls.
Like Ritchie, his strong play in the AHL has been rewarded as he was and has since played seven games for the big club.
The counting totals aren't there yet but he's looked impressive and has more than held his head above water in terms of possession (57 Corsi For% at 5 v 5) and scoring chance numbers (60%) while averaging ~20 minutes per game.
If he doesn't fully establish himself as an NHL regular this season, he's all but a lock to do so next year.
Nick Ritchie: Left Wing - 6'3" / 230
Drafted: 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2014
Following a dominant 2014-15 season split between the Peterborough Petes and Soo Greyhounds (Ritchie had 42 goals and 88 points in 62 combined regular season + playoff games) Ritchie has seemingly transitioned to pro hockey quite easily.
In 23 AHL games Ritchie has accumulated 14 goals, 23 points and 70 shots on goal and has already established himself as one of the better young players in the AHL.
As a reward for his strong play, Ritchie has played 11 games with the big club this season, although he only recorded one assist in those games.
Still, the future looks very bright for Ritchie. He may not be ready for the big time just yet but he's not far off.
Expect the big power forward to be a full time member of the Ducks in 2016-17.
Jacob Larsson: Defenseman - 6'2" / 190
Drafted: 27th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2014
Jacob Larsson has been excellent in the first half of the season for Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League.
The smooth skating puck-moving defenseman has already surpassed last season's totals registering 10 points through 27 games (he had three in 20 games last year).
He's also coming off an impressive showing at the World Juniors where he was one of Sweden's most used blue liners and was relied upon to play against the opposing team's best players on a nightly basis.
I don't know if he'll be a consistent point producer at the NHL level, but he's well on his way to becoming a mid-pairing defenseman who can contribute in all situations.
