Wyatt Cullen's Player Profile
Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - April 14th: "The speedy, two-way center has saved his best hockey for major showcase events, which obviously gets scouts excited. Cullen isn’t a future No. 1 center, but he can be a reliable, smart two-way guy with the potential to be a No. 2/3. I might like him more than others, but I think the floor is high enough to slot him here."Will Scouch - Scouching.ca - April 13th: "Cullen has excellent offensive transition metrics across the board and is one of the most effective carriers in the class. His defensive game certainly needs work, but he has that Mitch Marner-esque ability to see the ice beyond what’s right in front of him. Working off defenders using skill to create passing lanes, hanging onto the puck for an extra split second to hit a secondary option, faking out opponents and changing lanes remarkably quickly, his on-puck talent is undeniably."
Dauton Reimer - The Hockey Writers - March 25th: "He’s a point-per-game player on the roster, blending a strong work ethic with speed and great awareness on both ends of the ice. He battles for the puck, chips in defence, throws hits, and can fire the puck."
Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - March 17th: "He’s a shifty on-puck handler who blends shoulder fakes into agile cuts and very noticeable lateral mobility. He's a good overall skater and offensive thinker. He was clearly more talented than his production last year indicated, and has caught my eye dating back to U17 worlds in Sarnia when he was really small."
Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - March 17th: "Cullen is an intriguing prospect who has the speed and skill to drive play for his linemates. He’s highly competitive and difficult to defend in small areas. While Cullen’s stats don’t jump off the page as super elite (8G-28A in 35GP) they are a byproduct of a USNTDP roster that isn’t as dynamic as it has been in recent years."
Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - March 13th: "The speedy, two-way center has saved his best hockey for major showcase events, which obviously gets scouts excited. Cullen isn’t a future No. 1 center, but he can be a reliable, smart two-way guy with the potential to be a No. 2/3."
Peter Baracchini - The Hockey Writers - March 10th: "He attacks intently and with pace when he has the puck and within the offensive zone, he has great timing to break up plays and quickly transition the other way and he’s a great skater with speed and agility to constantly attack the middle."
Smaht Scouting - February 27th: "Using feints, head fakes, weight-shifts quick accelerations, Cullen fends off pressure and physical-first defenders like nobody’s buisness. To become a better rounded player and reach his true upside, he’ll have to become a better player off the rush and a better playmaker, finding passes quicker rather than trying to beat the same defender 3 times."
Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - February 25th: "The U18 tournament is the crowning jewel for the USNTDP so if he can lead the charge and right the ship during that event, Cullen has the chance to significantly raise his draft stock. As always, NHL bloodlines instantly add value, especially someone whose father (Matt Cullen) played over 1,500 NHL games."
Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - February 23rd: "Among the most skilled and effective is Wyatt Cullen. His speed sets the tone as he pushes the pace and looks to get in behind defenders. He has excellent hands and works the puck around the offensive zone efficiently. He's one of the team's most consistent players night in and night out."
