Tynan Lawrence's Player Profile
Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - April 14th: "He really found his game near the end of the season and should play a leading role with BU next year. There’s still a lot to love about his game and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s taken closer to fifth. But his stock has definitely fallen overall, with some scouts questioning if he has top-six potential."Will Scouch - Scouching.ca - April 13th: "Five players under the age of 18 are playing in the NCAA this season. Just 24 other players in the last 25 years have done the same. Younger players are playing tougher and more developed competition which I think is a great shift and we’ll likely only see more of it. For me, I see Lawrence’s journey from domination of the USHL to perceived NCAA struggles as a massive benefit."
Dauton Reimer - The Hockey Writers - March 25th: "He is unafraid to go up against bigger opponents in the corners and behind the net, has very good straight-line speed, and has an offensive presence similar to Malhotra, using a barrage of high work ethic and creativity to make plays happen. He just needs to gain a bit more confidence and strength to reach that next level."
Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - March 17th: "Lawrence has a natural release, getting pucks off his stick quickly after an intentional move to the inside or a pass into his catch-and-release. He’s a good, strong skater who plays with pace and can make plays off the rush as well as inside the offensive zone. He plays pucks into space well and wants to take the play to the slot."
Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - March 17th: "It would be irresponsible of teams to think he doesn’t have a projectable skill set. He plays with pace and leans goal scorer, but has the puck touch to distribute as well."
Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - March 13th: "He’s a speedy forward who pressures opponents into mistakes and backchecks hard, too. I love his confidence, too. It just feels like he was thrown to the wolves a bit too early this season after starting the year in the USHL (following an injury), and he’s paying the price."
Peter Baracchini - The Hockey Writers - March 10th: "He can do it all, as he’s strong positionally, anticipates plays and takes advantage of opponent’s mistakes. He’s keeping up with the pace against better competition and is only going to get better when the points start rolling in."
Smaht Scouting - February 27th: "He understands timing and space, works well off his teammates, and looks to drive the middle and create chaos among the action. His nonstop motor is on full display defensively as well, constantly winning races and battles, turning defense into offense better than just about every other forward prospect in the class."
Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - February 25th: "Yes, there was plenty to like in the summer and the limited number of USHL games he played this year, but the college transition has proven to be a challenge. This isn’t entirely unexpected because of his age. College hockey is not easy and although chances are still being earned, the pure production expected from him has simply not followed."
Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - February 23rd: "He remains the top center in the draft class with the combination of pace, skill and a sound 200-foot game. If he can get his offensive numbers to start popping, he could get a higher spot in the class."
