Chase Reid's Player Profile

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - April 14th: "Reid’s name has been mentioned by a few scouts as a legitimate No. 1 pick thanks to his outstanding puck skills and competitive nature. You can argue that the OHL isn’t as strong as it once was because the older competition jumped to the NCAA early. But I 1,000 percent believe Reid will be one of the best defenders in college once he joins Michigan State."

Will Scouch - Scouching.ca - April 13th: "His offensive output also relies on perimeter shooting more than I’d like, especially when there is some good playmaking ability if he takes a step up from the blueline. He’s an intriguing package that reminds me a bit of a Morgan Rielly type, and say what you will of his game at his age now, but Rielly had a very good, long run as a legitimate top four NHL rushing defenseman with blueline-based offensive ability and powerplay upside."

Dauton Reimer - The Hockey Writers - March 25th: "When the puck is on his stick, he can slow down the game to a crawl, creating time and space for himself to find the perfect passing lane or wait for a scoring opportunity to reveal itself. He stickhandles and skates well, and although he lacks some physicality, he plays a very heads-up, highly aware game that will make him incredibly valuable to any team."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - March 17th: "He escapes pressure well and can attack at openings or create them for himself. He’s got a great shot and is deadly in transition, with an impressive offensive sense and good vision. His defensive play has taken strides after needing to adjust in the OHL at first, though there are still times when he needs to button up and play a little firmer on both sides of the puck."

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - March 17th: "Reid has top-pairing NHL upside. He’s an outstanding skater who transitions pucks, joins the rush as an extra layer, quarterbacks the top power play unit, and pushes back physically."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - March 13th: "He’s a great skater, has a solid 6-foot-2 frame and is always involved at both ends of the ice. Reid’s name has been mentioned by a few scouts as a legitimate No. 1 pick thanks to his outstanding puck skills and competitive nature."

Peter Baracchini - The Hockey Writers - March 10th: "He’s a smooth skater for his 6-foot-2 size and he constantly wants to be the one leading a play and creating opportunities for his team. While he can be a great defensive presence, there have been some inconsistencies to his game as of late and trying to do too much instead of just having a steady mindset."

Smaht Scouting - February 27th: "Chase Reid is a smart, competitive defenseman who consistently looks to make plays with the puck, using space well and excelling at feeding passes down low and executing quality exit passes. He reads the game effectively, steps up to break up passes, and pinches down the wall with good timing."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - February 25th: "Reid brings a more dynamic game to the table than does Verhoeff, but that comes with some risk. Reid is excellent getting back on pucks and using his feet and elite passing ability to break them out. His fancy footwork allows him to walk the blue line and find lanes to get shots through, and he rarely passes up a shooting opportunity."

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - February 23rd: "The ups and downs of Reid's game are what holds him just outside of the top group of players. He's at his best when he's pushing the pace with his passing and using his vision to find teammates all over the ice. He has some gaps in his defensive game, particularly when things get moving around the defensive zone."
