Malcolm Spence's Player Profile
Corey Pronman - The Athletic - June 10th: "He’s a tenacious worker who wins a ton of battles and gets to many pucks due to his length, speed and effort. He comes back hard and is a great two-way forward. Spence has good offensive skills and sense and can create chances with pace, but I wouldn't call him a dynamic or overly creative player with the puck."Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 9th: "Spence (6-2, 201) is a very good skater who can accelerate with the puck on his stick, and he's strong enough to make his presence felt on the forecheck. He also was one of five OHL players to score at least five power-play goals and five short-handed goals this season."
Mike Morreale - NHL.com - June 9th: "Spence offers plenty of speed as a high-end playmaker. He was third on Erie with 73 points (32 goals, 41 assists) in 65 games, and had 14 power-play points (five goals, nine assists)."
Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 2nd: "Spence is a competitive, fast, detailed, hardworking player who can get out in transition or attack off the wall. He plays the game with intention, sticks with plays and has decent-though-not-dynamic skill."
Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - May 27th: "Maybe not a top-six player, but someone whom you can assign a job to do and he’ll get it done. The Mississauga native isn’t flashy, but he’s a hard worker who loves hitting everyone he can and getting anyone off their game."
Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - May 12th: "Coaches will love him, and he can fill a role in the middle six as a hard forechecker with good speed and physicality that generate some chances. The question is whether he has the requisite skill to take advantage of those chances."
Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - March 26th: "It’s a realistic thought that a team will be more aggressive and call his name before this slot. My concerns regarding Ryabkin’s ability to create offence, and score goals, is minimal."
Smaht Scouting - March 23rd: "The talent is undeniable, with a great release, quick hands, creative passing and a real edge to his game, he is also a solid defensive player. The inconsistency he has though is frustrating, as are the lapses in judgement and concentration."
