Cole McKinney's Player Profile

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - March 26th: "McKinney is on the rise. He’s the type of forward who can be thrust into a variety of roles up and down the lineup. With the U18 Team USA group he is deployed in all situations and has been averaging over 20 minutes of ice time."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - March 25th: "He’s got above-average skating, tools and work ethic, with an eager and involved approach and an ability to make plays when they're there and execute. His skill level isn’t flashy but he sees and reads the game well and has some secondary skill."

Smaht Scouting - March 23rd: "In the offensive zone, he’s usually the one driving possession—moving laterally along the blue line, probing for lanes, and drawing defenders in to open up options elsewhere. Off the puck, he supports well, regularly heading to the backdoor and making himself available as a passing outlet near the net."

Jacob Roth - FC Hockey - March 9th: "McKinney is a two-way center who is comfortable playing in all situations. He is a strong skater, despite not being the fastest, with a wide base that makes it hard to knock him off the puck. His strong edgework allows him to change direction quickly. McKinney plays with a lot of intensity, forechecking hard and never shying away from contact or battles."

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - February 28th: "He is an aggressive forechecker who chains together a few small plays to get good results. He is a deft passer, particularly in the offensive zone. He's not an incredibly flashy player, but he's found a way to be effective in an underwhelming environment."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - February 26th: "The top point producer for the US program has shown steady improvement all season long. The expectation is that he’s at his best now and is set to make a forward push at the U18 worlds."

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - February 21st: "McKinney (6-0, 200) is good at creating offense because he plays fast, hard and physical. He might be the NTDP's most competitive forward, and his ceiling is high at this stage of his development. The 17-year-old right-shot forward, who is committed to the University of Michigan next season."
