Braeden Cootes's Player Profile

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - June 10th: "He's a good, if not very good skater who plays with a lot of pace. He has strong offensive skills, playmaking and finishing abilities. He creates offense at fast tempos and in a direct manner."

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 9th: "The Flames need to add a top center prospect and Cootes is the best available at this spot. The 18-year-old plays bigger than his size (5-11, 183), and led Seattle with 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists) in 60 games."

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - June 9th: "He's a top-line center who happens to be productive on the power play and penalty kill. Cootes fits the Flames mold as a strong team player and difference-maker up and down the lineup."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 2nd: "He’s a strong skater who plays with energy and detail, earning the trust of coaches with his diligent, complete game. He’s a good athlete. He plays the game with determination. He’s a good penalty killer and five-on-five driver."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - May 27th: "Cootes might become more of an energy forward in the NHL, but he’ll be a good one at that. The thing that really stands out here is just how much he wants the puck, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get it."

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - May 12th: "Cootes plays with speed and brings a high work rate. His offensive game has always been the question, because although there were flashes of high-end ability, he was doing everything else for the team as well."

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - March 26th: "I feel like he’s scraping the surface of his overall ability. There’s a real chance he might end up only providing depth offence at the pro level, but his quickness combined with his size and work ethic project Hensler as a shutdown defender at worst."

Smaht Scouting - March 23rd: "He’s an above average shooter and skater who can create offense through shooting pucks through traffic and creating space for teammates by pinching with offensive zone possession. On the defensive side of his game, Hensler excels at defending the rush by consistently taking away the middle of the ice and using an active stick to prevent controlled zone entries regularly."
