Zayne Parekh's Player Profile

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - June 11th: "He’s a power play quarterback, play driver and risk taker. A comparable is Erik Karlsson on projection. Parekh has to improve his detail defensively as he matures."

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 11th: "The 18-year-old has earned comparisons to Erik Karlsson of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Questions surround his defensive play, but Parekh is driven to get stronger and improve. For someone graduated high school at 16, there's no question he knows how to put in the work."

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - June 11th: "He set Saginaw records for goals and points by a defenseman this season and helped Saginaw win the Memorial Cup. The right-handed shot also had 34 power-play points (10 goals, 24 assists) and scored two short-handed goals."

Chris Peters - Flo Hockey - June 3rd: "What makes Parekh impressive is how he was able to produce points as a play-driving defenseman with an expert ability to get shots through, jump into plays and create the best opportunities for himself and his teammates."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 3: "He plays an aggressive and natural offensive style that looks to attack off the line into the slot or even the front of the net or below the goal line. He’ll also regularly involve himself in the rush, much like a winger does, driving down the wall in control to look to challenge defenders and attack into his shot or create an odd-man rush."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 28th: "He has strong edge work and top speed and is very elusive off the blue line. He also has an excellent point shot being a constant goal-scoring threat. The big issue with Parekh is his play away from the puck. He gives half-efforts at times defensively and doesn't engage physically."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - May 28th: "If any defender in this draft can hit the 70-point marker in the NHL, it’s Parekh. He finished the OHL regular season with 33 goals and 96 points in 66 games to lead all U-18 OHLers. It was the third most productive U-18 season ever by an OHL defender, and he’s one of just two that age to crack 80 points in the 21st Century – the other being Ryan Ellis, who delivered an 89-point season in 2008-09."

- Dobber ProspectsJordan Harris - Apr. 20th: "There’s almost no physical game with Parekh and his difficulties defending are real. He’s used to playing in a free-flowing system which gives him a lot of autonomy, but he’ll need to play more structured and compete harder in the NHL."

Central Scouting - Apr. 16th: "A smooth skater with requisite speed, quickness and offensive smarts. Good instincts, reads and reacts quickly to move the puck with purpose. Plays with some “swag” and his game has matured considerably to where he makes measured choices with the puck."

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - Apr. 15th: "His passing and shot creation in the offensive zone are so much fun. The kid can absolutely dish it. In transition, he is a solid passer who can get a bit too eager at times, which can result in turnovers."
