Stian Solberg's Player Profile

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - June 11th: "Solberg is a two-way defenceman with reliable hockey sense and understated offensive upside. Solberg is a solid skater and plenty strong in battles areas. He sees the ice and distributes the puck responsibly. It feels like he’s just scratching the surface of his upside."

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 11th: "Solberg (6-2, 206) opened eyes with his top-end skating and poise in all areas of the game in Norway's top league and at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, where the 18-year-old had three points (two goals, one assist) while leading Norway with an average ice time of 22:44 in seven games. He would be the first player born in Norway to be selected in the first round of the NHL draft."

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - June 11th: "Solberg had a strong second half to his season and finished with 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 42 regular-season games and nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 17 playoff games in the top men's league in Norway. He is expected to play for Farjestad in the Swedish Hockey League next season."

Chris Peters - Flo Hockey - June 3rd: "Where I do have some concern on Solberg is that he moves pucks fairly well, but there’s not a lot of dynamic skill to him that we’d seen over prolonged periods. The physical game, the size and the skating ability, however, are all traits that lend themselves favorably to a higher-minutes defenseman in the league."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 3: "One of the most competitive players in the draft, Solberg plays really hard and firm on both sides of the puck, with a mean, strong, physical presence that has seen him make life hard on opposing players whenever he has played against his peers internationally and even against men."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 28th: "I don't see top-end puck play, but over the course of the season I came around on that aspect of his game. He can make a first pass and shows enough touch to go with tremendous defensive work, projecting as a legit top-four NHL defender."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - May 28th: "He’s 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds, something that has helped him play against men for the better part of the past three years. His best play, though, was at the IIHF World Championship, where he was Norway’s best defenseman by a longshot. He took some dumb penalties, but Solberg isn’t afraid to play on the edge and I Like him for that."

Seth Ditchfield - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 20th: "He loves putting people through the boards and being a pain in front of the net, which often sees players avoiding him altogether. His toolkit with the puck continues to show room for refinement, however, Solberg shows a promising blend of offensive risk-taking, and sharp-shooting skills, suggesting there may be some hidden potential lying around."
