Sam Dickinson's Player Profile

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - June 11th: "Dickinson is the kind of defenceman who has the hockey sense, size and skill to log minutes as a top pairing defenceman in the NHL. There are moments I’d like to see him play with more assertiveness defensively, but with the amount of ice time he logs he has to pace himself at times at the junior level."

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 11th: "His high hockey IQ helps him pick his spots for when to jump into the play in the offensive zone or use his great puck-moving ability to find a teammate to spark the rush. The 18-year-old is poised and controlled even when the game gets charged up."

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - June 11th: "A powerful and elusive skater capable of playing big minutes and producing offensively, Dickinson was the quarterback on London's power play and had 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) with the man-advantage."

Chris Peters - Flo Hockey - June 3rd: "With 70 points this season, Dickinson was uniquely productive for a player at his size and age in the OHL. While he was especially productive, Dickinson still needs to round out his game and while he’s certainly skilled, he may not be a dynamic play-driver at the next level."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 3: "He’s a strong 6-foot-3/4 defenseman whose skating is a major strength (forward, backward, four-way mobility, the full package for a defender his size). He plays to who he is and what makes his game so successful. He defends at a very, very high level for his age both man-to-man, down low and positionally in his own zone."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 28th: "He has offense and can make some tough plays but I wouldn't call his vision what gets you excited about his game. Even with that in mind, in terms of what he could be in the league, I see PP2 potential who could have a major impact at even strength."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - May 28th: "He’s 6-foot-3, moves really well and had one of the most productive seasons of any CHL defenseman. There are times he’ll get caught trying to do too much with the puck, but his versatility will make him an attractive option this year."

Jordan Harris - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 20th: "Dickinson defends well and can eliminate rush opportunities completely using his unfair combination of length, skating, and gap control. Because of his physical tools, Dickinson can maintain wider gaps as he knows he’ll be able to close in on the puck carrier with ease."

Central Scouting - Apr. 16th: "Consistently logs big minutes and plays in all situations. Hockey sense is strong, has a composed game carrying the puck and a quick read-and-react game utilizing his skating and high-end puck skills to make plays."

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - Apr. 15th: "Dickinson is a very strong skater, and he has the size NHL clubs want in a defender. His passing ability is inconsistent, but when he is on his game, he’s among the better breakout passers in the draft class, and he can run a power play with precision. "
