Carter Yakemchuk's Player Profile

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - June 11th: "He can play the game a variety of ways. He’s proven he can score off the rush or rip pucks from distance on the power play. He keeps opponents honest around his crease with his physical presence."

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 11th: "Yakemchuk led WHL defensemen with 30 goals this season and his poise with the puck and his skating allows him to find holes to create plays in the offensive zone. And at 6-3, 202 pounds, the 18-year-old right-handed shot has NHL-ready size."

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - June 11th: "He is positionally sound, knows where to go to make himself available, has an advantageous reach and is good in battles along the boards."

Chris Peters - Flo Hockey - June 3rd: "An easy offensive game with puck skills to go with a 6-foot-3 frame makes Yakemchuk an attractive prospect. Add in that he’s a right-shot defenseman and the stock only grows a little more. There are some legitimate hockey sense concerns, particularly on the defensive side of the game."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 3: "Led by his instincts, plenty of confidence and legit skill for a D his size, he generated a lot from the back end for a Hitmen team that generated little. While his game in the WHL does come with some give and take, he’s got pro size, a pro shot (maybe an understatement given his gaudy goal totals) and an attack mentality that is complemented by an active disposition to eagerly jump off the line or into the rush — and also a developing sense for when to hold it (or back) or outlet it."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 28th: "Yakemchuk has a bullet shot from the point. He is more of a shot than a pass threat, and while he can see the ice, his vision isn't at the same level as his shot or stickhandling. He can make stops due to his feet, length and strong physicality but his defensive play and consistency in that area can use work."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - May 28th: "Defensively, though, I still need to see more improvement. His decision-making under pressure leaves a bit to be desired, but the potential is high here. With some seasoning, Yakemchuk could be a high-output defender in the NHL."

Luke Sweeney - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 20th: "In transition, Yakemchuk’s hands are his best asset as he is not a particularly adept skater or transition playmaker. He is fast for his size, but his mechanics are poor and he lacks explosive acceleration. His difficulty in making timely decisions also prevents Yakemchuk from being a strong breakout or entry creator."

Central Scouting - Apr. 16th: "Drives his team’s offense as he distributes the puck well and creates scoring chances for teammates with his accurate and creative reads. In the defensive zone he can handle speed off the rush and win battles along the boards and in front of the net."

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - Apr. 15th: "A true wild cowboy of a defenseman, Yakemchuk is such an interesting offensive blueliner. He isn’t the smoothest skater, which sometimes limits his game defensively, but the puckhandling and skill he flashes offensively have allowed him to work around his skating, helping him score 30 goals as a draft-eligible blueliner."
