Anton Silayev's Player Profile

Jason Bukala - Sportsnet - June 11th: "His length assists with killing plays defensively. Silayev projects as a match-up/shut-down defenceman at the NHL level. He’s capable moving pucks, but he won’t provide much offence."

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 11th: "The left-shot defenseman is one of the most intriguing players in the draft because of his size (6-7, 211) and developing offensive side of his game."

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - June 11th: "Silayev, who turned 18 on April 11, more than a month after his final game (March 9), had the most points by an under-18 player in KHL history, topping Vladimir Tarasenko's 10 points (seven goals, three assists) in 38 games for Novosibirsk in 2008-09."

Chris Peters - Flo Hockey - June 3rd: "Silayev has a fluid skating stride for such a big player, can change direction with ease and is able to close down on opposing forwards. He handles himself well along the walls, can lower the boom with a good body check and is able to protect the net-front."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 3: "He’s got more steps to take in his decision-making on the puck (I find he's a little too trigger-happy — he actually shows good poise and comfort when he doesn't rush), his shot (which he gets off in volume and does a good job putting on target, but will definitely add power as he gets stronger and works on it), and his ability to really impose himself with his size (which he really learned to do this year, leading Torpedo in hits)."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 28th: "He can skate pucks out of his zone well, makes a good first pass and shows strong hockey sense at the offensive blue line. Silayev has strong puck skills and can beat pro defensemen one-on-one often enough."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - May 28th: "I truly believe Silayev is the best at actually playing defense, but he lacks the offensive stylings the others do. But the 6-foot-7 blueliner averaged just under 20 minutes a night while blocking shots, landing hits and showing off great skating for his size."

Graham Montgomery - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 20th: "He uses his size and reach well to command the ice around him, making him effective at shutting down opposing rush attempts entirely or limiting their effectiveness by forcing plays to the outside. However, the situational awareness and decision making remain question marks. It has been obvious at times that he is a teenager playing against grown men for this exact reason and he hasn’t shown much improvement in this area over the game."

Central Scouting - Apr. 16th: "Surprising mobility for a player of his size, he is active, alert and involved. Two-way defenseman who likes to support and join the offensive rush. Plays with intensity and a great winning attitude."

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - Apr. 15th: "It’s not often that a defender comes around with the size and skating ability Silayev has. So much of his offense came at the start of the year when everyone was hyping him up online with highlights, but when you really watch his game, you see that he isn’t that guy, and he has never really had the track record of being an offensive generator from the back end."
