Matthew Wood's Player Profile

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - Dec. 19th: "Wood is a big-bodied shooter who can make his money in the NHL as a triggerman with a flash of skill from time to time. He lacks foot speed, which makes him an average transition player. Wood protects the puck well and uses his frame effectively on the cycle."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - Nov. 15th: "Wood has very good hands and even better offensive IQ to go with a strong shot. Heís dangerous inside the offensive zone and on the power play due to the various ways he can beat defenses."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - Nov. 1st: "Wood is a rangy, goal-scoring forward who has silky hands for his size (considering the long stick he uses, heís got great control on the toe of his blade out wide and the heel in tight to his feet), a marksmanís shot inside the offensive zone (both through a natural shooting motion and his one-timer), and a sixth sense for arriving around the net/slot at the right time."

Evan Pace - Dobber Prospects - Oct. 20th: "He is a tall, rangy forward with an elite release on his wrister, a heavy one-timer, and good hands in tight around the net, allowing him to find the scoresheet in a variety of ways. The main area of focus will be improving his foot speed and overall pace, but his size helps to mitigate those issues and allow him to play through traffic."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Oct. 19th: "Still looks like a player who hasnít quite caught up to his size (6-foot-3, 190 pounds). Adding strength is a must for all facets."

Steven - Daily FaceOff - Oct. 3rd: "Heís been a high-output contributor everywhere he has played, and while the BCHL isnít the strongest of leagues, heís pegged for a big season at Connecticut."

Peter Baracchini - The Hockey Writers - Sept. 27th: "He has the positioning and wrist shot similar to Auston Matthews with his power and speed behind it. Heís great at identifying the open lanes and is able to get into position swiftly in order to complete quick give-and-go plays."
