Shane Wright's Player Profile

Brock Otten - McKeen's Hockey - Nov. 16th: "Wright is worth the hype. The comparisons to the likes of Patrice Bergeron and Jonathan Toews are apt. A born leader, he is one of the most complete and intelligent players to come through the draft in recent years."

Ryan Kennedy - The Hockey News - Nov. 11th: "The undisputed gem of the draft, Wright is a powerful pivot with character who can dominate at both ends of the ice."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - Nov. 3rd: "Not only is he an incredibly athletic kid who boasts a wide gait and boxy shoulders that will allow him to stay over pucks and play through checks at the NHL level, but those physical tools are complemented by a lethal wrist shot release (which he can get off from several stances and pops off of his blades heel or toe) and excellent hands in traffic that allow him to take pucks off of the wall from won battles and create scoring chances to the interior."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Nov. 3rd: "Donít be concerned about point totals (eight points in eight games), focus on the details, and you see a first overall pick all day long."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - Oct. 25th: "Heís a strong skater, puckhandler and passer but those aspects arenít dimensional. Rather itís his great work ethic, well rounded two-way play down the middle to go with excellent all-around offense that makes him a projected star."

Bob McKenzie - TSN - Sept. 30th: "Wright can do it all. Heís not an elite skater but he is a strong skater. His shot is excellent, and while some scouts believe heíll have more goals than assists in any given NHL season, heís also a very good playmaker who makes everyone he plays with better."

Craig Button - TSN - Sept. 30th: "Elite, complete centre who has a command in all situations and contributes to every single area of the game. The IQ is exceptional, and he plays with significant calm but high intensity."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - Sept. 15th: "Heís got a wide, balanced gait to his stride and a boxy build that helps him stay on pucks and win battles. Heís got an NHL release that he can disguise off of the toe or heel of his blade from multiple stances."

Jacob Barker - Dobber Prospects - Sept. 3rd: "Skillset aside, I think what makes Wright such an incredible prospect is his unmatched understanding of the game in all three zones of the ice. He has a knack for just knowing what is going to happen before it happens, which makes him very reliable defensively as he is also not afraid to get in the lanes and throw his body around as well."

Ben Kerr - LWOS - Aug. 9: "He can do it all on the ice. He is an outstanding skater with excellent speed, acceleration, agility and balance. Wright combines that skating with all of the offensive skills one would want."
