Alexis Lafreniere's Player Profile

Bob McKenzie -TSN - Sept. 16th: "Many scouts agree that Lafreniere doesn’t necessarily possess elite skill in any single category but is very good to great in so many of them that the total package simply can’t miss. However, one scout said his competitiveness and will to be great are elite and – combined with way-above-average hockey sense/vision and a strong skill set to score or make plays equally well – ensure he’s a blue-chip prospect."

Craig Button -TSN - Sept. 16th: "High end offensive talent who is an excellent playmaker and has the scoring ability to impact the game. Finds ways to be the difference maker at key times."

Cam Robinson - Dobber Prospects - Sept. 2nd: "A premier, point-producing machine off of the wing. Extremely dangerous in one-on-one situations. Scores in a variety of ways. Brings the noise. Can still improve on his two-step quickness and hitting the top gear sooner… but we’re nitpicking."

Ryan Kennedy - The Hockey News - Aug. 20th: "Nearly won the ‘Q’ scoring title as a 17-year-old, so the bar is pretty high. But Lafreniere was one of Canada’s best players at the WJSS and will be crucial to gold-medal hopes in December."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - Aug. 19th: "His release is dangerous off of his front foot or his back foot, in motion or standing still. He’s strong on the puck and willing to use those puck protection skills to drive into dangerous areas."

Craig Button - TSN - Aug. 12th: "An elite scoring & play making winger. He may be in the mold of @HockeyHallFame Michel Goulet. CHL player of the year in 2019."

Steve Kournianos - Sporting News - July 31st: "A dazzling playmaker with exceptional hockey sense, Lafreniere is poised to become the first Quebec-raised prospect to go first overall in the draft since Marc-Andre Fleury in 2003."

Chris Peters - ESPN - June 27th: "He was the CHL Player of the Year in 2018-19 after putting up 105 points, tied for the most by a U18 player in the QMJHL since Sidney Crosby. Lafreniere isn't at the Hughes level yet, but he's trending up pretty aggressively. Having missed the draft cut-off by only a few weeks and since he's coming off that incredible season, the expectations for Lafreniere are going to be through the roof next season."
