Jorgen Karterud's Player Profile

As one of the better junior-age players in Norway, it is great to finally see that Jørgen Karterud is getting consideration for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He slipped through the draft last year as a 1994-born player but he has improved even more this year to warrant a late-round selection. Karterud is tall at 6'4" but, at only 190 pounds, he appears quite lanky. Despite that, though, Karterud is a great skater and he has incredible speed through the zone. He has played in the Norwegian GET ligaen since he was 17 and he was a full-time player in that pro league this year with Vålerenga, where his teammates included Steffen Søberg (the first Norwegian goalie ever drafted to the NHL), Sondre Olden, Ryan Garlock, and Justin and Tyler Donati. Karterud has proven himself both at the junior and professional levels, as well as on the international stage. He has won a World Under-18 silver medal and a World Junior gold medal, meaning that he will be representing Norway at the 2014 World Juniors against the top countries. He scored his first professional goal as a 17-year-old. Karterud has the potential to be a great late-round steal for a team willing to be patient with him and allow him to mature even more as a player.
