Matt Murray's Player Profile

Matthew Murray may have had to play behind Jack Campbell for the majority of the 2011-12 season with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds but he showed on several occasions that he is one of the best young goaltenders coming out of the OHL. The Greyhounds have had considerable success with goaltenders in recent memory -- Robin Lehner, Ray Emery, Dan Cloutier, John Vanbiesbrouck, etc. -- and Murray is hoping to join that list. He is tall and lanky, much like Jonas Gustavsson, but his talent has shown that his body type is not a hindrance. Murray's statistics in 2011-12 belie just how solid he has been. Murray has been lauded for his calmness under pressure and his ability to follow the play. However, many feel that his ability to play the puck needs some work and his rebound control is in need of improvement. Murray should be a solid professional goaltender, especially with the grooming of being a #1 this coming season in Sault Ste. Marie.
