Vincent Trocheck's Player Profile

Strengths: Offensive minded skater with an excellent wrist shot. He is smart with the puck on 2 on 1 opportunities and is willing to take the shot rather than forcing the puck to a teammate. His biggest strength is his ability to find the puck on 2nd chance opportunities and scores on a regular occasion. Quick skater that will use his skating to get around defenseman and put himself in position to score. Above Average passer with an occasional pass that will lead to a odd man rush. Good puck handler who can effectively weave around opponents and move the puck at center ice. Possesses an active stick that will intercept passes. Even with his lack of elite size, he is effective around the net and making life hard on the goalie. Excellent face-off man who rarely loses. He is a reliable asset in shootout situations with quality puck handling and a quick shot that will beat the goalie and rarely will be off. Quality vision of the ice allows him to find his open teammates for goals. He scored five shorthanded goals, which will help him find ice time regardless of his less than stellar defense. He was a member on one of the best power play units in the OHL in 2010-2011 season. Registered 62 points in 68 games in the 2010-2011 season, including 26 goals and 36 assists. Could be a better player than numbers suggest as he played along side Brandon Saad, Josh Shalla, and Jordan Szwarz. Has a knack for being in the right place at the right time in the offensive zone. Uses the boards behind the goalie to his advantage by bouncing the puck off the boards and back the the front of the net.

Weaknesses: A bit raw on the defensive end and will need to improve before he gets quality ice time. Shows lack of effort at times on both ends of the ice. Can disappear if he does handle the puck for a while. Lacks defensive mindset after losing a face-off which can lead to a winger getting behind him and starting a breakaway. On occasion, will be caught staring at the puck rather than covering his zone. Can be overly aggressive in the defensive zone and chases the puck rather than covering his zone. Can start on offensive skate before the puck is handled by teammate in the defensive zone. Loses his man too many times and allows them to get behind him and score. Can be careless when moving the puck and turn it over in defensive zone. Only an average slapshot. He is not very big and, as a result, he will need to add some weight to avoid being knocked around in the NHL.

Overall:Vincent Trocheck is a good offensive center but his lack defense will hold from breaking into the NHL for at least 1 to 2 years. He needs to develop his defensive play in the minors before he crack an NHL roster as a 4th line center. He has the tools to be a 30+ goal scorer but must prove he can play defense before he can show his true talent on offense. He is 18 years old right now so he still has time to develop and refine his game.
