Stuart Percy's Player Profile

Mississauga-native Stuart Percy blossomed at just the right moment this season for his hometown Mississauga Majors, and was a key cog in their run to the Memorial Cup Finals. What Percy lacks in size and speed, he makes up for in tremendous hockey iq, positioning, and composure. The 6-foot-1, 175 pound blueliner has that Lidstrom-esque uncanny ability to get the puck through crowds to the net from the point, and also like Lidstrom, he never, ever panics with the puck on his stick. His first pass out of his own zone is superb, and uses tremendous positioning and a smart stick to play effective defense. His speed isn't blinding, but he is mobile enough to rush the puck and loves to join in offensively. He is also in good shape, and can eat up solid minutes.

Like most guys who either go late in the first round, or in the later rounds, Percy will need a year or two of further seasoning. Not strong enough at the moment to play pro hockey, look for Percy to have another year in the OHL, and then a year in the AHL to learn how to be stronger in front of his own net, and to improve his all-round defensive game. Nevertheless his game translates well into pro hockey, and he can be a major point-producing and minute-guzzling defender in the future.
