Gabriel Landeskog Profile

Team: Kitchener (OHL)

Gabriel Landeskog's Player Profile

One of the highly skilled players in the draft, Landeskog put up very good numbers in his rookie season with the Kitchener Rangers. The young Swede's passion and talent made him the captain of the Rangers this year. His combination of leadership and skill is drawing comparisons to Daniel Alfredsson. Landeskog is not very big, but skates very well and brings a lot in any zone on the ice, and is not easily intimidated. The dynamic prospect still has plenty of potential, and could hear his name called in the top 5 of this year's NHL draft.

You know how highly the Rangers think of their Swedish Captain when GM and Head Coach, Steve Spott, compares him to one of the best Rangers in hockey history, Mike Richards. The first European Captain in Ranger history is surprising everyone in the hockey world, usurping Sean Couturier in NHL Central Scouting's North American Skaters Rankings at the Mid-Term.

Strengths: Landeskog is the most 'NHL-ready' of all the prospects in this years class. He plays a sound two way game, and will do anything to win. Fight, block shots, hit, go to the net for dirty goals; you name it, he'll do it. Drawing a lot of comparisons to some great Swedish players such as Peter Forsberg and Daniel Alfredsson, I like to call him the "Swedish Jarome Iginla", for his shear desire to win, leadership abilities and all around play.

Weaknesses:Some question Landeskog's upside at the NHL level and if he can be a true impact player. There's no doubt that Gabriel will be an NHL'er, but it remains to be seen how good he'll be. Gabriel doesn't have the goal scoring ability that 2010's Ranger Star, Jeff Skinner, has, but Gabriel does all the little things possible to put the puck in the net.

Talent Analysis: Landeskog is a two-way future Captain. His bears his heart on his sleeve each game, and will be a part of any team's plans going forward. If he can continue to get stronger, Gabriel could be a 30 goal guy at the next level if he continue to drive to the net.

NHL Comparable: Jarome Iginla-lite

Gabriel Landeskog, is without a doubt the most complete player up for grabs in this NHL entry draft. Landeskog can play the game any way you want it. Every shift he brings the physical game, ranging from big hits, to standing up for a teammate with a fight. While, he shows considerable grit, he also remains on of the most skilled players in the draft and with a incredible will to win. Also, he was named the first European captain in the Kitchener Rangers history, he demonstrates great leadership qualities, which, along with his other skills, automatically brings comparisons to former Kitchener Ranger captain, Mike Richards. Landeskog is also considered the most NHL ready prospect in this years draft.
