Derek Forbort's Player Profile

There may not be a player in the draft that has seen his stock increase as much as Forbort has over the past six months. The former Duluth East Greyhound is playing with a great deal of confidence, showing he belongs as a top 15 pick this June. Forbort takes advantage of his physical tools often using his long reach to take passing lanes way from opponents. Forbort plays hard nosed hockey in the corners and uses his strength to move opponents away from the slot area. Forbort is great at transitioning from offense to defense, using his speed and positioning to force players to the outside.

Forbort is very patient with the puck and anticipates the game well, he has a good shot which he keeps low allowing rebounds for his teammates. Forbort, a former Duluth East High School standout, is committed to play at the University of North Dakota next season.

Projection: If teams selecting near the top of the draft need a defensemen, Forbort could sneak into the top ten.
