Benjamin Conz's Player Profile
A short and stocky goaltender, Benjamin Conz has been overlooked in the NHL Entry Draft for the past three years and it is hard to comprehend why. Conz is an incredibly fast goaltender for one of his stature and physique. He can move from post to post with fluidity and his glove hand is very quick. He tends to keep the fivehole closed in high-pressure situations. Conz was the saving grace for the Swiss junior team in 2010 in Saskatchewan, when Switzerland shocked everyone by making it to the bronze-medal game against Sweden; most people would have thought that the Swiss would have finished lower. Conz was named the tournament's top goalie. In his encore, Conz did not deliver the same heroic performance but he could be excused since most of the team he had in front of him had graduated. The only thing that Conz should do for improvement is play somewhere he could be scouted closer; he has done everything he can in Switzerland. He has amazing technique and, for a heavier-set goaltender, he is incredibly strong when in butterfly. His reflexes are exemplary. He can recover quite nicely. Conz follows the play closely. Going undrafted, it is possible that he could be the next Jonas Hiller -- a young Swiss goalie overlooked until one team decided to give him a chance. He surely deserves it.Submitted by: Margann Laurissa
