Ty Smilanic's Player Profile

Clare McManus - Dobber Prospects - Sept. 30th: "While he dealt with a plethora of injuries this year, when not injured, he can be a very reliable forward. Smilanic is a solid skater with a strong 200-foot game."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - Sept. 21st: "Smilanic entered the year expected to lead this NTDP age group offensively. Unfortunately, a bout with mono, a high ankle sprain and a broken hand worked against some of those high hopes."

Chris Peters - ESPN - June 30th: "Hampered by injury this season, Smilanic probably would have benefited from an extended season and playing in the IIHF World U18 Championship. He's one of the more athletic forwards in this group, playing with speed and strength and possessing the ability to make plays near the net."

Jack Dawkins - The Hockey Writers - May 22nd: "He’s a hard worker and does everything at max speed. North/South wise he’s probably one of the top skaters in the first two rounds of the draft, and he already has reasonably strong defensive instincts to complement his offensive gifts."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Mar. 4th: "It would be nice for scouts to have seen him play healthy for a long stretch, but that’s not likely to happen before season’s end."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Feb. 5th: "Three different significant injuries have taken their toll. When healthy, he’s a bundle of energy wrapped in skill and that will see him come to the fore."

Tony Ferrari - Dobber Prospects - Jan. 29th: "Ty Smilanic has dealt with injuries and inconsistencies this year but remains an intriguing two-way scoring option."
