Matthew Tkachuk's Player Profile

Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News - April 5, 2016 - "Smart, creative and hard-working, Tkachuk has been locked in at No. 4 in the draft rankings by scouts, behind Matthews, Laine and Puljujarvi."

Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News - February 9, 2016 - "What more can be said about Tkachuk? The kid just keeps churning out highlight-reel goals and just to mix it up, he has practically perfected the tip-in at the top of the crease. When you’re big, talented and smart, you can do that."

Damien Cox of Sportsnet - January 13, 2016 - "It’s Tkachuk’s playmaking more than his scoring that stands out when you watch him. Was very good at WJC."

Curtis Joe of Elite Prospects - 2016 - "A multi-dimensional energy winger that plays a pro-style, adaptive game. Well-versed as a guy who can consistently put up points, but also as an agitator who plays with a little bit of bite and nastiness. Skates with excellent balance and speed, outclassing many in his age range. No lack of offensive instincts and knows how to score in many different ways. Confidence in his abilities and playing to the extent of his capabilities strengthens his work ethic and creativity."

Mike Morreale of NHL.com December 24, 2015 - "With elite vision, work ethic and hockey IQ, the son of U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Keith Tkachuk will bring his intensity to the top line alongside Matthews and DeBrincat. Tkachuk (6-1, 195) has 13 goals and 53 points in 27 games for London of the OHL. He excels playing inside the dots and has shown a willingness to go to the hard areas to score goals. Tkachuk brings a physical element and is able to get under the skin of his opponents."

Future Considerations - November 2015 - "Matthew, son of former NHLer Keith Tkachuk, is a strong winger who plays a solid all-around game. He utilizes impressive smarts and senses to be in proper position and his dogged work ethic to capitalize on those chances. Has some quick, creative hands and a dangerous shot. Plays the game with high levels of grit and sandpaper, getting his nose dirty almost every shift. Drives the net and is relentless in the corners."

Submitted by Spencer Seymour - Jan . 19th - Playing on the top line with high-end NHL prospects Christian Dvorak (ARZ) and Mitchell Marner (TOR), Tkachuk's game has evolved into one of skill and strength. While not being a small player at 6'1", he plays bigger than he actually is and plays a power forward game with an offensive flair. Playing on the top line with Dvorak and Marner, Tkachuk hasn't been the one people notice when they see the Knights but has demonstrated great smarts and a tremendous skill set. Many people believe he could end up being a better NHLer than his father.
