Michael Webster's Player Profile

On a Barrie Colts team that employs the likes of Ryan O'Connor and Aaron Ekblad, Michael Webster seemed to get lost in the shuffle a lot this year but that does not mean that he is any less talented. Finding his way onto the NHL Central Scouting rankings in the later rounds, Webster has made significantly positive strides this season that have allowed him to be one of the biggest sleepers in the entire OHL this year. A really late OHL draft pick in the same draft in which Barrie chose Ekblad with the first overall pick, the 5'11" blueliner made the team this season after playing midget hockey the year before and he did not look out of place in junior hockey whatsoever. Webster is a fantastic north-south skater who has keen offensive instincts. He has an incredible shot which makes it remarkable to think that he did not score any goals last year. Webster's on-ice vision is great and he is a solid playmaker. In addition to his ever-developing offensive game, he has been very steady on the defensive side, as well. He also plays with a significant pugnacity, making him one of the better all-around players on the Colts, and he will be a key returnee for them next season. It is remarkable to pinpoint just how beneficial and surprising Webster has been and, considering the supporting cast he has been surrounded by this year, the possibility of him being drafted could not be diminished. He has incredible potential and, while he may not be a superstar, he could surely become one if given the best opportunity to flourish.
