Jimmy Lodge's Player Profile

Lodge is a skilled forward, who developed well over the 2012-13 OHL campaign, as he exceeded one point per game. He is not a finished product by any means, but he has a significant amount of upside. He has high-end puck skills, conveying the overall look of a skilled player. He is very coordinated in his puck handling, with the ability to make top-level plays. Lodge has good offensive instincts, manifesting both in his puck creativity and in his gifted passing and crisp distributions. He can execute difficult plays. He is a solid to above-average skater as well. Still, his physical game leaves a little to be desired. He has improved in that area, but he could stand to be more consistent in his physicality, as well as to gain strength. He also tends to fly out of his zone a tad too quickly.

Strengths – Jimmy Lodge is a very good skater who accelerates quickly and has a high top end speed. He can skate up and down the ice in a very short period of team and makes it look effortless. Lodge has excellent vision and a high hockey IQ which allows him to read defenses and react accordingly at a fast pace. He’s a very good passer who can complete a variety of difficult passes with ease. He has a lot of finesse and touch to put the puck in places not many players can. Lodge is an underrated goal scorer, too, as he does have some finishing ability. He’s a good puck handler and is very creative in the offensive zone which makes him tough to defend as he’s unpredictable.

Weaknesses – First and foremost, Lodge has some filling out to do. He can be knocked off the puck too easily at times and adding some weight would really help him when it comes to controlling the puck and battles along the boards. Lodge needs to be more positionally sound and aware in the defensive zone. At times he cheats out of the zone and the opposing team generates chances because of it.

Career Projection – Lodge has the hockey IQ, speed, agility and puck skills to be a solid top-6 winger at the pro level. If he can put on some weight and continues to develop as he should, the sky is the limit.

Versatile forward who has had one of the most impressive second halves in the crop… Deceptive offensive player who thrives with the puck… Has a good shot and ability to find shooting lanes… Needs to continue to add Strength… Could be a big riser come draft day.

Lodge was one of the more consistent forwards at Select 17s camp. He has good size and speed and showed this character down the wing in creating offensive opportunity. He showed that he could score in a variety of ways by going hard to the net or displaying a quick snap shot. He also has the playmaking ability and isn’t afraid to get dirty in corners.
